What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin,custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored material designed to overlay the visible surfaces of teeth. Veneers come in two main types: direct and in-direct.

Direct veneers are made of composite resin materials that are applied directly to your teeth by the dentist. They are applied in a single appointment, and they are considerably cheaper than indirect veneers. However, they are not as strong as indirect veneers and may require touch-ups.

Indirect veneers are made in a specialized lab before they are applied to your teeth by the dentist. These veneers are more expensive and take two visits to have installed. They are usually made of porcelain and last longer.
Who Are Veneers Ideal For?
If you would like to improve the appearance of your smile, you are most likely a candidate for porcelain veneers. In general, you may be a good candidate if:

  • You have enough tooth enamel to support the veneers
  • You have healthy teeth, free of decay
  • You do not have gum disease
  • You do not grind your teeth (bruxism).
  • You practice good oral hygiene
If you have tooth decay or gum disease, it won't necessarily rule you out as a candidate for veneers.

However, Dental Team On 118 will have to treat these conditions and restore your teeth and gums to optimal health prior to undergoing this procedure.
How Are The Veneers Placed?
After a thorough examination and consultation, it usually takes two appoinments at our Edmonton clinic to restore your teeth with porcelain veneers.

The teeth are prepared at the first appointment and an impression is taken.Temporary veneers are then placed on a precise model of your teeth. The veneers are laboratory fabricated ensuring an exact fit.

On the second appointment, the veneers are bonded to the front teeth with an adhesive. Following final adjustment, the process is complete. Since this bond is extremely strong, the veneers virtually become part of your teeth and they will feel and function just like your natural teeth.
