When Are Bridges Used?
A bridge can be used when missing teeth are causing issues with eating and speaking. They can help strengthen the integrity of your mouth and improve your quality of life.

A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the space -- these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth -- and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.
How Are Bridges Placed?
During the first visit, the abutment teeth are prepared. Preparation involves re-contouring a portion of the tooth to allow room for crown placement.

Next, impressions of the teeth are made. These serve as a model for fabricating the bridge, pontic and crowns by our dental laboratory. The dentist will make you a temporary bridge to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the bridge is being made.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge will be removed and the new porcelain or metal bridge will be checked and adjusted to achieve an optimal bite.

Following verification of the bite and aesthetics by the patient, the bridge is permanently cemented into place.
